Absentee Shawnee Tribal Lt. Gov. Kenneth Blanchard died Friday at age 79. Blanchard worked in tribal politics for more than 40 years.

Kenneth Blanchard, Absentee Shawnee Tribal lieutenant governor and a longtime tribal leader, died Friday, the tribe announced this week.
Blanchard died at 79 on March 12, the tribe shared in an obituary Monday.
Blanchard, a life-long Little Axe resident, was involved with tribal politics for more than 40 years, his obituary said.
The lieutenant governor was heavily involved in his community â apart from serving with tribal leadership, he was also a founding member and chief of the Little Axe Fire Volunteer Department. Blanchard, who fluently spoke the Absentee Shawnee language, enjoyed being part of tribal ceremonies, his obituary said. ....

BILLINGS â The Billings elementary school budget is in trouble, with a $3.2 million deficit expected in the 2021-22 school year, Billings School District 2 Superintendent Greg Upham told trustees at a Monday board meeting.
âIs it anyoneâs fault? It really isnât. I think there were some decisions made years and years ago that set all of this into motion and I just donât see it as pointing the finger. I donât see it as going back. I donât see it as this or that. Itâs an issue that we have to solve and regardless of who the superintendent is, Upham said. ....
