Washington [US], December 19 (ANI): A research team at the University of Illinois has developed a gene biomarker identification technique that cuts the testing process down to a few days while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
The aim of this research was to identify the smallest set of indicators from the liver to predict toxicity and potential liver cancer, said Zeynep Madak-Erdogan, associate professor in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at U of I and a lead author on the study.
The agrochemical industry has a pipeline where they test new compounds in terms of toxicity-related endpoints. Liver toxicity is one of the most important endpoints, because the liver is the organ that receives the blood supply and cleans it, making it one of the biggest targets in terms of environmental toxic action, Madak- ....

Scientists say PFAS, GenX could limit COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness

Residents who have been exposed to GenX and similar compounds should take extra precautions to protect themselves against COVID-19, scientists who study the chemicals say.
The scientists encouraged those who have been exposed to the chemicals to get vaccinated for COVID-19, even though the exposure might limit the vaccine’s effectiveness.
The Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C., hosted an online presentation Thursday about how per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are known to have toxic effects on the immune system, which can make vaccines less effective.
Linda Birnbaum, former director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and National Toxicology Program; Jamie DeWitt, associate professor of pharmacology and toxicology at East Carolina University; and Tasha Stoiber, senior scientist with the EWG, also talked about how communities that are exposed to high levels of PFAS chemicals may be more vulnerable ....

Study identifies biomarker gene signature that indicates potential liver toxicity

Study identifies biomarker gene signature that indicates potential liver toxicity
When agrochemical and pharmaceutical companies develop new products, they must test extensively for potential toxicity before obtaining regulatory approval. This testing usually involves lengthy and expensive animal studies.

The aim of this research was to identify the smallest set of indicators from the liver to predict toxicity and potential liver cancer.
