Governments warm up to vaccine mandates for skittish health care workers


When an unexpected outbreak of COVID-19 in a nursing home in the Landes region of France led to two deaths last month, the media and the government seized upon a surprising fact: Only 60 percent of care home staff were vaccinated, even though they had had access to coronavirus jabs for months.
French Health Minister Olivier Véran immediately blamed the infections on a non-vaccinated caregiver despite the fact that the cluster’s origin couldn t be confirmed. Damage of visitor masks to care home residents’ welfare ‘outweighing protection’

The damage that face masks on visitors is doing to the welfare of care home residents is outweighing the protection they offer, a care home group has said.
The need for the current level of infection control measures is “increasingly diminishing” in homes where the vaccine has been successfully rolled out among residents and staff, according to Sunrise Senior Living and Gracewell Healthcare.
The group, which has 45 homes across England and one in Wales, has written to Health Secretary Sajid Javid warning that some of these “once protective measures are now damaging the wellbeing of care home residents”. ....
