We’re speaking with Myia Antone, founder of a new non-profit organization based in Squamish on this program, a young woman who is helping break down barriers and increase participation and leadership opportunities for Indigenous Women in the outdoors.
Myia is currently a full-time student, but dedicates a lot of her free time to helping run various programs – part of her mission with Indigenous Women Outdoors to “hold space for Indigenous women to come together and feel safe on the land”.
From backcountry touring, to planned mountain biking programs, the organization is holding true to it’s goals. ....

EPA starts work on bushfire clean-up in Clarence Valley

Works have started in two Local Aboriginal Land Councils as part of an additional $95 million funding from the NSW Government to public land managers for bushfire recovery waste management and recycling.
The Aboriginal Land Clean-Up program is the first of five programs being delivered by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) to support public land managers, including local councils, across the state.
Following extensive on-ground assessment, and consultation with Local Aboriginal Land Councils by the EPA and Public Works Advisory, works have been approved to start in the Baryulgil and Malabugilmah communities in the Clarence Valley in northern NSW. ....

Community input to name Mildura South Regional Sporting Precinct
Mildura Rural City Council has launched a community engagement initiative to help name the multi-million dollar Mildura South Regional Sporting Precinct (MSRSP).
Local residents and future users are being urged to submit their ideas over the next three weeks, with priority given to names which address one or more of the following criteria:
Names that relate to local Aboriginal culture or language
A geographic name or feature of the local area
A deceased person who has strong connections with the community and is held in high esteem
Names submitted should be for the entire sporting precinct, and must comply with Geographic Names Victoria (GNV) naming rules (visit https://www.land.vic.gov.au/place-naming/understand-the-naming-process/the-naming-rules ....

Tura Headland experience on track: Bega Valley

The beautiful views and natural delights of the Tura Headland walking track will soon be open to more people following upcoming works to improve accessibility and enjoyment.
Partly funded through the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund, the 900-metre walking track will undergo works to improve the surface and create three new viewing platforms.
Council’s Project Manager, Glenn Merrick said the works will make it easier for people with limited mobility and specific needs to enjoy some of the best views along the shire’s coast.
“Erosion caused by weather, wear and tear has resulted in this popular walking track becoming degraded over the years,” Mr Merrick said. ....
