The counting of votes for the District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday has given a clear lead to the People’s Alliance For Gupkar Declaration (PAGD).
The People s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) has bagged 82 seats and is leading in 30. Thirty-eight Independents, mainly disgruntled leaders from all political parties, have been declared winners and the same number are leading in other seats. They are followed by the BJP which had won 52 seats, including three in the Kashmir valley for the first time, and was frontrunner in 18. ....

Both the BJP and the People’s Alliance have termed the poll results as their success. While the BJP has termed the outcome and the voter turnout a contradiction to the “idea of Gupkar Alliance”, the People’s Alliance has said that the people have rejected the “unconstitutional decision to abrogate Article 370”.
“The overwhelming participation of the people is a clear sign that they believe in democratic procedure rather than bullet and grenade,” BJP’s election-in-charge for the Valley, Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said. “The peaceful, free and fair election with record voting turnout contradicts the idea of the Gupkar Alliance,” he said. ....

JAMMU, Dec 22: Jammu and Kashmir is an exception in the country where crores of rupees are being spent from the tax-payers’ money for providing security and other facilities to the former Ministers and Legislators that too at the unauthorizedly held Government accommodation including Bungalows and quarters.
This was observed by the Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justice Rajesh Bindal, Acting Chief Justice and Justice Sanjay Dhar while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) No. 17/2020 highlighting illegal occupation of Government accommodation in both the capital cities. ....

Jammu: The District Development Council elections in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday threw up a predictable verdict a clear decisive lead for the People s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration.
The PAGD â a Kashmir-based amalgam of mainstream parties â was floated on October 7; incidentally, the DDC elections were held in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the first time after the revocation of Article 370 and bifurcation of the erstwhile state.
The representational character of the PAGD is apparent from the fact that National Conference President Farooq Abdullah is its president and PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti its vice president. ....
