Anchorage Assembly establishes formal government relationship with Native Village of Eklutna

In a unanimous vote, the Anchorage Assembly on Thursday officially established a formal government-to-government relationship with the Native Village of Eklutna.
The move is also intended to place respect and recognition for the area’s Indigenous Dena’ina Athabascan people into municipal code, according to a memorandum about the ordinance.
“This is a strike at the heart of the question of justice,” Assembly member Christopher Constant said. “The recognition of the sovereignty of the Native people of the Village of Eklutna by the Municipality of Anchorage is long overdue.” ....

The City of Kelowna has bought a waterfront property on Abbott Street for $5.3 million with plans to use it to expand a park in the future.
The City announced in a media release today, Jan. 14, it bought the home at 2302 Abbott St. to support the future expansion of Strathcona Beach Park. The 0.9-acre property was purchased from Kelowna resident Walley Lightbody, who has a history of philanthropy with Kelowna’s hospital and heritage communities.
The land was purchased for $5.3 million, which the City said is market value.
The Cape-Cod-style home was built on Okanagan Lake in 1939 by Lightbody’s father-in-law, the late Dr. Walter Anderson, the City said. Anderson went on to contribute to the community as a dedicated physician and philanthropist. ....

Smart roads, dedicated toilets for third gender, public e-charging stations, drinking water fountains, sewage treatment plants, setting up of an Integrated Command and Control Centre and not imposing any new tax for the next financial year, are among the plans listed by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) in its annual budget announced on Wednesday.
The civic body s chairman Dharmendra, presented a budget with a moderate surplus of Rs 136.18 crore in the current financial year and Rs 172.47 crore for financial year 2021-22 reflecting its commitment to a well governed and financially sustainable municipal body.
NDMC has not proposed any new tax for the next financial year in spite of a number of reliefs granted this year.
