Donny Schatz to Make Long Anticipated NASCAR Debut at Knoxville
The 10-time champion will drive for David Gilliland Racing in the Truck Series race. DB3 Inc.
The legend of Donny Schatz very well could have been written in pavement rather than mud.
Now 43, the North Dakotan had already established himself as a World of Outlaws Sprint Car regular with rookie of the year honors in 1997 and his first feature victory in 1998 when he was approached with an
ABC Deal to pursue NASCAR.
ARCA Busch Cup.
Had Schatz pursued it, he would have made his pavement stock car debut in the World Series of Asphalt at New Smyrna Raceway and competed in the ARCA Racing Series before making the gradual progression into the Busch Grand National division and Winston Cup.
In preparation for the Knoxville Nationals, the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce is asking for residents who are interested in hosting race fans in their houses, campers, or other properties to register for the Nationals Housing Program. Chamber Director Emma Skahill says this will be done through a new tourism website.
“This year, it’s going to look a little different because we have our new tourism website: ChooseKnoxvilleIowa.com. If you’re a Knoxville area resident and you’d like to host some race fans this year, you can go online and list your house. There is no fee. Race fans will be able to browse all the listings, find the one that’s the best fit for them. They can then reach out directly to you and you all can work out the details from there. It’s a great way to make a little extra money if you’re comfortable with hosting some race fans in your home.”
