And then there were three candidates running for Montgomery County Executive in the June 2022 primary.
County Executive Marc Elrich previously announced he is seeking re-election. He was elected to that position in November of 2018. As of June 1, he has two opponents, County Councilmember Hans Riemer and businessperson David Blair.
As Riemer strongly hinted previously, he will run for that office as will Blair, who lost to Elrich by fewer than 80 votes in June of 2018.
Riemer is kicking off his campaign at noon on June 12 at the Silver Spring Brewing Company in Metro Plaza in Downtown Silver Spring. “Montgomery County needs progressive leadership that is effective and forward thinking. It is time to move on from the politics of the past. You know my deep convictions for Democratic values and my record as a councilmember with a vision for the future,” he wrote in announcing his candidacy. ....

Elrich Urges WMATA to Change Name From White Flint Metro to North Bethesda Metro

County Executive Marc Elrich sent a letter to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) requesting that the White Flint Metro Station be renamed “North Bethesda Metro Station.”
This letter was sent more than two weeks since the organization Friends of White Flint asked the county government consider changing the new “North Bethesda” name for the White Flint Metro. On March 31, Elrich, Councilmember Andrew Friedson, and the Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce attended a virtual meeting with Friends of White Flint as well as 60+ residents, where they discussed other possible new names; ultimately a consensus was reached on “North Bethesda Metro Station.” ....

County Executive Marc Elrich announces new rental assistance funds


Elrich says county will continue publicizing available funds

More than $60 million will soon be available to Montgomery County residents and businesses affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
He added that the county expects to soon receive another $28 million from the state, as well as $33 million under the federal American Rescue Plan, a coronavirus relief bill Congress passed in early March.
The county has been offering rental relief funds multiple times during the pandemic. Officials are currently in the third round of rounding. Last month, $31 million in federal funds and $28 million funds was announced.
County officials previously approved grant funds for not only rental relief, but also to help businesses recover lost revenue due to the pandemic. The $61 million in additional funding that Elrich announced Wednesday would solely be used for rental assistance for businesses and residents, with guidelines t ....
