Atyrau rgn receives 17 thou Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine doses

ATYRAU. KAZINFORM – 17 thousand doses of the Sputnik V vaccine have been delivered to Atyrau region, 7 thousand of which allocated to vaccine employers at the Tengiz oilfield, Kazinform correspondent reports citing the press service of the health office of Atyrau region.

Another batch of the Sputnik V vaccine has been delivered today to Atyrau city from the Aktobe pharmaceutical hub. The vaccines are shipped and distributed to 25 vaccination sites in the special freezers to maintain the necessary temperature.
Atyrau region received a total of 32,200 doses of the vaccine in the period from February 1 to April 23, 2021. The first dose of the vaccine has been administered to 15,018 residents of the region, while 3,535 have received both doses of the vaccine. ....

Two years into a malaria vaccine pilot scheme, more than 650,000 children have been immunised across Kenya, Ghana and Malawi, the World Health Organization said Tuesday.
Global advisory bodies for immunisation and malaria are expected to convene in October to review data on the vaccine and consider whether to recommend using it more widely.
The RTS,S vaccine is the only existing jab shown to reduce malaria in children. It acts against plasmodium falciparum the most deadly malaria parasite globally and the most prevalent in Africa.

Vivekh, a comedian and the Tamilnadu state’s ambassador for public health messages, had pushed his followers to get the jab, touting it as “safe and effective.” He then got jabbed himself, only to die of cardiac arrest less than 24 hours later.
The 59-year-old was said to be in critical condition at a Chennai hospital after being brought in unconscious around 11am the day after his injection. At the facility, Vivekh underwent a coronary angiogram followed by angioplasty.
A medical bulletin explained that Vivekh was on ECMO support, which pumps and oxygenates blood outside the body. The next morning at around 4:35am, Vivekh died. ....

Colombia on Tuesday gave the green light for the private sector to buy and distribute coronavirus vaccines under certain conditions, in a bid to expand the country s slow-moving immunisation campaign.
President Iván Duque said in his daily television address that after several studies, the Health Ministry had drafted a resolution that enables the purchase [of vaccines] and the contribution of the private sector to the national vaccination plan.  
Any party buying vaccines must be endorsed by the Health Ministry and guarantee delivery using their own logistics chains so as not to be a burden on the public sector. They must also abide by guidelines to ensure the most vulnerable sectors of the community are the first to receive the shots. ....
