Rivers United have maintained their position at the top of the ongoing 2020/21 Nigeria Professional Football League with a 3-1 victory over Heartland in the Match Day 5 fixtures yesterday.
The Port Harcourt based team got off the mark in the 19th minute through Godwin Aguda from the penalty spot at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium
The lead was increased in the 64th minute through Enyinnaya Kazie but the deficit was reduced to one in the 78th minute when Heartland’s Shedrack Oghali made it 2-1.
Not to be outdone, the visitors also created their chance in the 7th minute when Kenechukwu Agu’s corner was met by Ugochukwu Ugwuoke but he couldn’t direct his header on target.
However, the home team had the first attempt on target when Godwin Aduda aimed at the goal from 25 yards but his effort was calmly collected by Rangers goalkeeper, Nana Bonsu.
Rangers continued to fashion out goal-scoring opportunities and were duly rewarded in the 29th minute when two former Rangers stars, Aguda and Omoniwari combined to give the hosts the only goal of the game.
Aguda’s low cross was met by Omoniwari who got trapped inside the net after scoring.

Diego Costa
Diego Costa has reached an agreement with his club, Atletico Madrid to terminate the remainder of his contract, putting him on the list of free transfers when the window opens in January.
Dailymail reports that after falling down the pecking order under Diego Simeone, Costa is understood to have instructed Atletico to tear up his contract which had just six months to run, with the striker picking up £270,000-a-week.
The 32-year-old has struggled for gametime in his second spell at the club, no thanks to recurring injuries.
Also, competition with Joao Felix and Luis Suarez compounded his woes even when he is fit, managing just two goals across his seven games this term – his most recent strike coming from off the bench at Elche in a LaLiga match before Christmas.
