China, Vassalboro holding town meetings, elections next week
Vassalboro is conducting its town meeting Monday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m., while China is holding its annual town business meeting by referendum ballot June 8.
The Kennebec County neighboring towns of China and Vassalboro are holding town meetings next week.
China voters will hit the polls Tuesday, June 8, for the annual town business meeting in a referendum vote, while Vassalboro is conducting its in-person town meeting Monday, June 7, and will have an election the next day as well.
The Vassalboro full budget, including for the Vassalboro Community School, totals approximately $6.96 million. ....

Skowhegan Town Manager Christine Almand sent a memo out to selectmen last week in preparation for the state’s lifting of the pandemic mask mandate on Monday.
“I will continue requiring face coverings in our buildings until the Board has had a chance to have a discussion and make some decisions,” Almand said in the note.
Should selectmen decide to no longer require face coverings, Almand will require town employees and selectmen to provide proof of vaccination prior to allowing them indoors without face coverings “to be consistent with legal obligations and guidance.” ....

CHINA The town of China is looking at changing its municipal law enforcement coverage from town-employed, part-time police officers to deputies from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
Responses to the proposal, posted to the Friends of China Facebook group, sponsored by The Town Line newspaper, have sparked debate. Some who shared opinions said the town is “defunding the police.” Others defended the town’s proposal.
