Acting United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Jonathan F. Lenzner and Assistant Special Agent in Charge Orville O. Greene of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Baltimore District Office announced today that the Drug Enforcement Administration’s 20
th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day held on Saturday, April 24, 2021, collected 11,536.59 pounds of potentially dangerous prescription medications at Maryland’s approximately 100 available sites. The nationwide event is held twice a year and aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs and educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.
“Pharmaceutical pills can be just as harmful as illegal drugs when they are used without proper medical supervision and without valid medical need,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Jonathan F. Lenzner. ....

BALTIMORE — More than 11,500 pounds of prescription drugs was collected in Maryland during the DEA s 20th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day last Saturday.
The nationwide event is held twice a year and aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of prescription drugs and educate the public about potential abuse of medications.
“Thousands of Maryland residents die every year due to overdose, with a significant number of those overdose deaths caused by opioids. Vermont: Prescription Drug Take Back Day turn in more than 3.5 tons of medication | Health


Vermonters participated in the nationwide Prescription Drug Take Back Day this past Saturday, turning in more than 3.5 tons of unused, unwanted and expired medication at over 55 collection sites throughout the state.

The 7,165 pounds of collected medication sets a record for Drug Take Back Day in Vermont, exceeding the previous record of 6,734 pounds collected in October 2019.
This twice-yearly event provides a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of prescription and over-the-counter medications, while educating about the potential for medication misuse, accidental ingestion and overdose. 
Communities across the state hosted collection sites, which were staffed by local and state police and county sheriff departments, and the collected medications were securely transported out of state and incinerated. ....

Vermont Business Magazine Vermonters participated in the nationwide Prescription Drug Take Back Day this past Saturday, turning in more than 3.5 tons of unused, unwanted and expired medication at over 55 collection sites throughout the state. The 7,165 pounds of collected medication sets a record for Drug Take Back Day in Vermont, exceeding the previous record of 6,734 pounds collected in October 2019. 
“As we continue to work to prevent substance misuse in Vermont, we know having unused prescriptions in the medicine cabinets at homes is a risk, which is why Drug Take Back Days and our ongoing collection efforts are so important,” said Governor Phil Scott. “I greatly appreciate the Vermonters who contributed to this successful collection day on Saturday – it will make a difference in our prevention work.”  ....
