For one thing, the novelty of these pets can quickly wear off. The abandonment of bunnies at animal shelters is a problem year-round, but the problem is especially acute at Easter. Rabbits are the third most abandoned pet in the United States, and the third most euthanized, according to the House Rabbit Society, which cited a 2012 study. ....

He is the oldest of four that Jan Schroeder calls her family.
Churchill, her cat, turned 21 on Thursday, or 147 in human years.
He is the first cat I adopted, Schroeder says.
It was love at first sight. He has been part of the family since he was four months old. Winston led her to foster more than 100 kittens from the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission or MADACC.
