PM turns emotional, pays tribute to people who lost Covid battle | India News


VARANASI: Choking with emotion while paying respect to people who died of Covid-19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday gave the mantra of ‘Jahaan Beemar, Wahin Upchaar’ (treatment at one’s doorstep) to reduce burden on the healthcare system.
The PM also thanked doctors and frontline workers for putting up a brave front against the pandemic and said they were fighting a long drawn battle with the virus.
Interacting with doctors, paramedical staff and other frontline workers of his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, through video conferencing, the PM said, “Bringing treatment to the patients’ doorsteps will reduce the burden on medical infrastructure which is already under great pressure. We have to fight on many fronts. With concerted efforts, we have handled the pandemic to a great extent but still we have to fight a long drawn battle. We should focus on rural areas of Varanasi and Purvanchal (east UP),” he said. ....

Appoint ASHA workers for COVID-19 works: Tiruppur MP

Tiruppur MP K. Subbarayan wrote to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday suggesting that the State government must appoint Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers in COVID-19 preventive measures to increase the number of healthcare workers. In the letter, he said that around 2,700 ASHA workers and their supervisors were currently present in the rural parts of the State, who could be appointed by the State government as nurses or in other positions as per their educational qualification on a permanent basis.
Mr. Subbarayan also urged improving the infrastructure and appointing additional personnel at the Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital “on a war footing.” With COVID-19 cases rising in Tiruppur district, he said the Corporation must reach out to the residents in all 60 wards to prevent the further spread of the virus and to decongest the Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital. 'Descendents' of Alexander the Great refuse to take Covid vaccine! – The Island

NEW DELHI, May 17: Over two thousand villagers who believe they are descendents of Alexander the Great and live in remote villages nestled in the Himalayas at an altitude of around 9,900 feet above the sea level are refusing to take the Covid-19 vaccine because it is against their beliefs.
(The five-foot tall king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia, who set out to conquer the world after succeeding his assassinated father at the age of 20, had invaded India in 327 BC. In July 326 BC, he fought King Porus of the Paurava kingdom at Bhera on the banks of River Jhelum in present day Pakistan’s Sargodha district. However, he was forced to turn back when his exhausted and homesick soldiers refused to accompany him on his expedition across the River Ganga. He died in Babylon in present Iraq in June 323 BC, and lies buried in Alexandria in Egypt. Several thousand people claiming to be descendents of Alexander’s soldiers live ....
