After watching Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald and Florida’s Dan Mullen win coach of the year honors in the past week, the race for this category of award feels completely unpredictable this year. Or maybe that’s just because this is the first year we’re actually paying close attention. Either way, Tom Allen has a shot to add another to his trophy case.
On Tuesday, Allen was named a finalist for the George Munger College Coach of the Year Award, which is presented annually by the Maxwell Football Club. Allen is one of six finalists, joining Ohio State’s Ryan Day, Coastal Carolina’s Jamey Chadwell, Cincinnati’s Luke Fickell, Liberty’s Hugh Freeze and Alabama’s Nick Saban. Flames Head Coach Hugh Freeze led the Flames to an impressive 10-1 season and a second consecutive Cure Bowl victory in 2020.
After leading the Flames through its greatest season in program history, Liberty Head Football Coach Hugh Freeze continues to be honored.
The second year head coach has been named one of six finalists for the 2020 George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award. The winner will be announced on January 19, 2021, and the award will be presented on the winner’s campus in the spring.
The half dozen standout coaches named as finalist for the award include Tom Allen (Indiana), Ryan Day (Ohio State), Jamey Chadwell (Coastal Carolina), Luke Fickell (Cincinnati), Hugh Freeze (Liberty) and Nick Saban (Alabama). ....

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The national recognition continues to flow in for Coastal Carolina head coach Jamey Chadwell as he was named a semifinalist for the 2020 George Munger College Coach of the Year Award, which is presented yearly by the Maxwell Football Club. Freeze Named Semifinalist for Coach of the Year Award

Liberty Head Coach Hugh Freeze s efforts to lead the Flames during the program s best season continues to draw national attention.
Today, the second-year head coach was individually honored when he was one of 12 semifinalists named for the 2020 George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award.
Freeze had led Liberty to a season of firsts , including the first-ever national ranking, first win over an ACC opponent and the best start in school history (8-0 to start 2020).
Under Freeze s leadership, Liberty defeated a pair of ACC foes in Syracuse and in-state opponent Virginia Tech en route to a 9-1 regular season record. The two wins makes Liberty the first non-Power 5 team to post a pair of wins over Power 5 schools in the same season since Houston in 2015. ....

NOTRE DAME, Indiana Dick Corbett Head Football Coach Brian Kelly has been named a semifinalist for the George Munger College Coach of the Year Award, which is presented yearly by the Maxwell Football Club. Kelly is one of 12 semifinalists for the honor.
This week, he has also been named ACC Coach of the Year by the conference, the Associated Press and the Bear Bryant Award, and a finalist for the Dodd Trophy and National Bear Bryant Award.
In his 30th season as a collegiate head coach in 2020 and 11th year at the University of Notre Dame, Kelly owns the second-most wins (102ˆ) among all head coaches in Notre Dame’s history, second only to Knute Rocke (105), and Kelly is the winningest active coach in the FBS with 273ˆ career wins. ....
