February 26, 2021 · 0 Comments By Peter Richardson, Local Journalsim Initative Reporter Mono’s Council heard a strong and informative presentation from Alethia O’Hara Stephenson, president of the Dufferin County Canadian Black Association (DCCBA) on Tuesday (Feb. 23) during their regular meeting. Established in June of 2020, the Association was initiated primarily, to support the ever-growing Black population in Dufferin County. Black people, including those of African descent as well as individuals from the Caribbean and the Latin diaspora represent the largest visible minority group in the County. Currently they form 3 per cent of the total population. O’Hara Stephenson notes that this, “sets the stage for the need to have an established Association that can advocate and represent, the needs of the Black community Dufferin County.” ....
February 26, 2021 · 0 Comments By Peter Richardson, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter The issue of the parking congestion along 3rd Line and its expansion to 2nd Line due to people accessing Mono Cliffs Provincial Park, came up for further discussion at Mono Council’s Tuesday (Feb. 23) meeting. Primarily the discussion revolved around the Towns plan to institute new parking bans on both these roads and the enforcement procedures to be instituted also. An expansive report and a new draft parking by-law was presented from Director of Public Works and Roads Superintendent Mike Dunmore, which ultimately drew two conclusions concerning the parking on Third Line. ....

Council heard a request from Rogers Communications Canada Inc., to support their application to the Federal government to become part of the Universal Broadband Fund (UBF) program. Their aim is to supply the entire town of Mono with Fibre Optic Internet service. Currently, much of Mono is underserviced by the available service providers and this prevents many residents and businesses from taking advantage of the opportunities afforded by digital communications. Broadband connectivity is a key priority for Mono Council and is in fact, part of their Corporate Strategic Plan. ....
February 11, 2021 · 0 Comments By Peter Richardson, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter Mono Council passed a motion during its Tuesday (Feb. 9) meeting, entering the Town into an agreement with Olympus K9 instead of the formerly used Orangeville SPCA. Council discussed the Canine Control Services Agreement and Amended Dog By-law during the meeting and shared that the contract with Orangeville SPCA to provide canine control, a pound keeper and license fee collection, was up for renewal December 31 of last year. When contacted about the renewal, the previous August, OSPCA came back with a revised agreement, showing a significant increase in costs, from $17,344 to $45,194. In addition, OSPCA kept all the licensing fees. ....
