Developer brings Christmas cheer to street


PROPERTY developer North Star has teamed up with York BID to bring some Christmas cheer to Rougier Street.
The company - which is behind some of the city s major schemes including the Roman Quarter, the redevelopment of the gas works at Heworth Green and a new hotel planned for Micklegate - has put up a 12 foot-tall Christmas tree.
Decorations and lights are from Barnitts.
The developer also helped put up decorations on Bishopthorpe Road earlier in December.
A North Star spokesman said: “We were delighted to work with the BID and make Rougier Street enter the Christmas spirit, in these strange times. The tree and decorations on our office look fantastic brighten up the street.” ....

Site manager Dane Mumford, 35, has earned a Seal of Excellence accolade for the exemplary standards he sets at his Romans’ Quarter development, Bingham.
Having won a third Pride in the Job Quality award, the Seal of Excellence completes a fantastic year of personal achievements for Dane, who works for David Wilson Homes.
He said: “It’s very overwhelming, especially on the back of everything that’s happened this year. The morale on site at Romans’ Quarter is really good and we have a hard-working team, which is reflected in the award.” ....

Petition launched to wind up Make It York

A LEADING city centre businessman has launched a petition calling for the city s tourism and marketing organisation Make It York to be wound up.
Phil Pinder, head of York Retail Forum, set up the petition after Make It York asked for a taxpayer-funded bailout to keep it afloat after being “decimated” by the pandemic.
A council report has revealed that if the council does not step in, Make It York (MIY) and Visit York will shut down, leaving “significant debts”- with a large number of staff being made redundant without compensation. ....
