LONDON The leader of Ireland’s Sinn Fein party, once the political wing of the Irish Republican Army (IRA), on Sunday apologized for the group’s killing of Prince Philip’s uncle Louis Mountbatten.
The IRA killed Philip’s mentor in 1979 as part of a decades-long conflict waged between Irish republicans and those who wanted Northern Ireland to remain in British hands.
Mary Lou McDonald’s comment came a day after the husband of Queen Elizabeth II was laid to rest, following his death at the age of 99 on April 9. ....

Mother's 'pride' at watching Grenadier Guard son carry Prince Philip's coffin


The mother of a Grenadier Guard has shared her pride after her son was chosen to be one of the pallbearers that carried Prince Philip s coffin at his funeral on Saturday. 
Dan Coghlan was one of the soldiers tasked with transporting the Duke of Edinburgh s coffin to a custom-built Land Rover that then carried the Duke to St George s Chapel in Windsor ahead of his funeral service and burial.
Members of the Royal Marines then carried the coffin up to the West Steps of the chapel. 
The Guardsman s mother, Dawn Monk, took to Facebook to share a photo of her son carrying the coffin and shared her pride.  ....

Northolt man gets 18 years for two rapes


Jailed: Paulo Kretteis
A NORTHOLT man was jailed on Friday (16) at Isleworth Crown Court for two separate rapes.
Paulo Kretteis, 22, of Petts Hill, was sentenced to 18 years in prison, having been found guilty in January of the two offences and one count of making threats to kill.
Det Con Asha Adams said: “Kretteis is a dangerous predator who showed no remorse or regard for either of the women.”
In the early hours of October 13 2019, police were called after a woman, in her mid-20s, reported being raped on a footbridge over a railway line close to Bentworth Road, W12.
The woman said she had met the suspect outside a bar before walking towards a bus stop. He assaulted her before committing the rape. The attack was disturbed by a passer-by and the woman was able to flag down a motorist. ....
