UAE leads global fight against epidemics

However, the one nation that shines in philanthropy amid all this is the UAE. It has asserted that it stands by India, ready to offer any kind of assistance to help tackle the coronavirus crisis that seems to be going out of control in that country.
Invest in fight against malaria to fill funding gap AMMREN urges African govts

The African Media and Malaria Research Network (AMMREN), a Pan-African advocacy group of journalists and scientists, has called on governments of malaria endemic countries to invest in the fight against malaria to fill the funding gap.
According to the group, unless countries found innovative ways to mobilise adequate resources to bridge the funding gap, malaria resurgence would likely take more lives in Africa.
This was contained in a statement signed and issued by Dr Charity Binka, Executive Secretary of AMMREN, in Accra yesterday on the occasion of this year’s World Malaria Day.

In support of World Malaria Day, News-Medical spoke to Dr. Laurence Slutsker, an internationally recognized expert in malaria, about fighting this disease in 2021.
Please can you introduce yourself and tell us about your career in research into malaria and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs)?
I would describe myself as a medical epidemiologist and public health researcher and practitioner. I began in 1987 at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and over the next 30 years focused on malaria and many of its challenges.

Zimbabwe managed to cut malaria prevalence by 79 percent in the last 17 years, Vice President and Health and Child Care Minister Constantino Chiwenga, said.
Chiwenga said that the country was on the path to achieving the goals of the global malaria control strategy.
He made the remarks on Sunday as Zimbabwe joined the rest of the world to celebrate World Malaria Day, which ran under the theme: “Zero Malaria – Draw the Line Against Malaria.”
It is everyone’s responsibility to stop the spread of malaria and avoid deaths, the Herald newspaper, in its Monday editions, quoted him as saying.
