How social exclusion amid coronavirus is impacting the Penn State community

For five days, Braden Ward sat alone in his dorm room. With no roommate and virtual learning, he said he saw no reason to leave.
Ward (freshman-public relations) is just one Penn State student facing the effects of social exclusion due to the coronavirus pandemic.
âIf I had forced myself to go out during that time, I wouldâve felt so much better,â Ward said.
According to psychology professor Michael Bernstein, Ward is right.
As a psychology professional, Bernstein conducted research regarding social exclusion and said when humans feel excluded, they derive a sense of fear and feel threatened to fix their current situation. ....

Children of parents vaccinated against COVID-19 will be ‘exempt from hotel quarantine’ for arrivals into Qatar from red zone countries.
Qatar Airways Holidays, in partnership with Discover Qatar has announced that children up to 16 years old will be exempted from hotel quarantine only if accompanied by a parent who has received the full course of the COVID-19 vaccine in Qatar.
But the child will be required to quarantine at home for 7 days, according to the website.
Any adults (18 or over) who have received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine from a medical facility in Qatar, with the second vaccine received at least 14 days before the date of entry into Qatar, are exempted from quarantine ....

House passes bill to update 529 College Savings Plan
OKLAHOMA CITY â A bill that updates allowable uses for qualified higher education expenses under the Oklahoma 529 College Savings Plan passed the House on Tuesday with a vote of 95-0.
House Bill 1962, authored by Jadine Nollan, R-Sand Springs, aligns the stateâs language with the federal governmentâs definition.
Nollan said the bill was a request bill by State Treasurer Randy McDaniel, a former House member.
She said the federal government expanded the definition of allowable uses under Section 529 of the Federal Tax Code over the past few years.
With the passage of this bill, Oklahomaâs definition of qualified higher education expenses will align with the federal definition. Funds currently can be used for tuition, supplies, and room and board at accredited colleges, universities, career technology centers and business schools. ....
