JOLIET, Ill. (WREX) Canada s Lion Electric Company is opening its first plant in the U.S. and chose Illinois as the location!
Governor JB Pritzker s office announced the deal on Friday. Lion Electric Company manufactures all-electric medium and heavy-duty urban vehicles.
A minimum of $70 million will be invested to build a new facility dedicated to producing medium and heavy-duty electric vehicles (EVs) in the U.S. The facility is expected to come online in the second half of 2022, setting into motion annual production capacity of 20,000 zero-emission vehicles a year, and creating at least 745 jobs for Illinoisans.

A Canadian company that makes electric vehicles is building a plant in Illinois and will be bringing more than 800 jobs to the state.
Fully Electric buses are the future and the future is rolling cleanly and quietly in to Illinois.
The news will be a huge economic boost for the Joliet area where the manufacturing plant is already under construction, The company is expecting to start hiring people soon.
School buses and mail/package delivery vehicles would seem to be the “lowest hanging fruit” on the tree for EV adoption (fixed routes, fleet charging during off hours, etc.). And Illinois is well positioned to be a tough competitor in both markets with Rivian and now Lion in the state. Well played, JB.

Or, maybe these companies knew the forecasts and decided to locate here anyway? Maybe the death spiral nonsense is overblown?
