Harvesting of homegrown fruit, vegetables and herbs has surged in popularity over the past 12 months.
With people being largely confined to their homes since March 2020, documenting the growth of seedlings and watering pots became a ritual to many.
Many discovered that you don’t need to be an expert in the field to grow your own produce – or even have a garden for that matter. All that’s required is some basic equipment, seeds or seedlings, compost, pots and, of course, patience. ....

Renowned for its award-winning organic preserves, Huntly Herbs has cemented itself as one of the region’s most successful food producers.
The family-run firm was launched by Fiona and Fraser Wilson in 1999, establishing it as a farm diversification, growing and selling organic herb plants. But since daughter Anna joined the business in 2001, it has evolved to concentrate on preserve-making.
So, Anna, tell us about your background in the food industry?
I grew up on the family farm in Gartly and, after going to university in Edinburgh and working in a plant nursery outside Edinburgh, I returned north to join Huntly Herbs. ....

Family-run firm Huntly Herbs reap the benefits of shifting focus to online sales

Business is thriving for a north-east family firm that has spent countless hours revamping its website to boost sales during the pandemic.
The team at Huntly Herbs, which offers award-winning organic preserves, was forced to completely restructure the business when the coronavirus outbreak struck. And now, they are selling all their handmade produce through the business’ website.
Anna Wilson, a partner at Huntly Herbs, says their main mission has been to let all previous customers know that the firm is still in business and the preserves are still available. ....
