Why should we be feeding our animals the proper nutrients?

By Leanne Wilson

Having a proper diet and lifestyle is important for us to maintain. It’s crucial that we also need to be looking at the right foods that we are feeding our animals.
Some people even enjoy going down by the river to feed the birds, but is what we feed them really healthy for their diet?

Brian Salt is the Founder of Salthaven Wildlife and Education Centre. He found Salthaven 25 years ago due to his passion for wildlife creatures. He says
“People will feed them the wrong diet. A lot of bread gets fed to ducks and geese. We’ve done autopsies on animals that have died from being fed bread, what happens is that you feed them dough. They die of emaciation on a full stomach or a full crop.”

COVID has increased the number of mental health calls

By Victoria Newman
Whether there is a pandemic or not, people still need emergency services.
Tracy Dietrich, program coordinator of the Emergency Telecommunications program at Fanshawe College, highlighted how COVID-19 has impacted the industry and her program.
“Dealing with the pandemic on top of your regular day to day calls is much more hectic. And I think, particularly for EMS, they notice a shift when lockdowns occur and vaccination clinics close,” she said.
Working in a 911 call centre is already stressful for the people who answer the phones but COVID has only increased that stress.
Also, they are seeing a shift in the number and types of calls coming in which “flows with what’s happening out in the world.” By this Dietrich means that when the case counts are up, and outbreaks are occurring then there are fewer calls for less emergent assistance. This is “because people are less willing to go to a hospital and sit there for several hours,” she pointed out.

This Saturday, Music Industry Arts (MIA) grads, Sarina Haggarty and Texas King will take the stage at London Music Hall to kick off a new initiative to support live music.
Saturday’s concert is the first in a series of concerts put on by Revive Live, an initiative created in part by the London Music Office and Tourism London. Each week, local artists will take to the stage at a local music venue. The concerts will be streamed live online for free for anyone wishing to attend.
“Prior to the pandemic, London’s live music industry was growing steadily,” said music industry development officer for The City of London, Cory Crossman. “The live music industry was one of the hardest hit by this pandemic and will be one of the last to recover. Revive Live will jumpstart a portion of the local economy offering support to the live music sector on the road to recovery.”

How students can save money this tax season

Lauren Tam is an accountant, and she offers students two important tips:
Open a Tax Free Saving Account (TFSA)
A tax free savings account is a great way to save money that not enough students take advantage of. Investment income, including capital gains and dividends, earned in a TFSA is not taxed in most cases, even when withdrawn. This is a great way for students to save for something like a car, place to live, etc.
Make sure you claim everything you are eligible for
When filing your taxes for the year, make sure you claim everything you can including moving expenses, textbook purchases, tuition, childcare expenses and interest paid on student loans.

The Superior Court of Justice heard from a husband and wife in the trial of Lawrence Allen Thompson. The 68-year-old man is being charged in connection to the abduction and sexual assault of a girl, 4-years-old at the time, which occurred almost three years ago.
The incident took place the morning of May 13, 2018 and the accused has pleaded not guilty to all four charges in the case.
The husband and wife were on their way to church the morning of the incident. Both described a man of medium build, around 60-years of age, with grey hair carrying a young girl into a bronze Chevrolet Impala. The husband specifically mentioned the girl being forcefully put into the vehicle through the drivers side door.
