By Julia Bertino
Mar 31, 2021
(Douglas County, NE) -- Minority populations in Douglas County continue to fall behind on receiving COVID-19 vaccinations.
Douglas County Health Director Dr. Adi Pour says a clinic in South Omaha will help address the slow vaccine administration in the Hispanic community. “We’re opening our long-term vaccination clinic at 35th & L Streets. That is going to be a steady clinic there."
Hispanic people make up about 13% of Douglas County’s population, yet have only received about 6% of the first shots of the vaccine. “A lot of outreach to the Hispanic population, and right now really focusing on the clinic on 35th and L Streets because that’s really kind of in the heart and where people work,” said Dr. Pour.

Iowa DNR says warm weather's made lake ice unsafe
Jan 4, 2020
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Warm weather this week is continuing to make seemingly frozen lakes and ponds in Iowa unsafe.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says a person was rescued Thursday after going through the ice at Brushy Creek Lake at the state park in Webster County.
The DNR says a man went in the water about 50 yards from a boat ramp. A nearby friend was able to push a sled to the man and pull him out of the water.
Department officials say while ice may appear thick enough for people to walk on, roller coaster temperatures lately means the ice conditions are deteriorating. They say new snow this week makes it impossible to see the ice below.
