with several companies already announcing significant job cuts. give us the latest as to what's happening. >> so we heard from amazon they're going ahead with layoffs when it comes to the prime video, mgm studios and twitch live stream were talking about hundreds of employees that will lose their jobs. and it's worth remembering when it comes to amazon, they started in 2022 and continued in 2023 with the largest layoff process in all its history cutting more than 27,000 jobs. we also heard from google, john, they're also going ahead with hundreds of job cuts at this stage. and when you put all of this together, what we're witnessing is essentially a reversal of the hiring spree that we had witnessed back during the pandemic. >> all right, cnbc's silvia amaro, joining us live from

between sort of eight o'clock and maybe ten, it's quite hectic because the phones are ringing off the pip and everyone wants to be seen. the gp is absolutely swamped because, you know, some days, we could have 60 patients ring of a morning and we've only got three gps. in october 2022, gps held about 32 million appointments. a year on, that had risen to 34 million, but still not enough to meet rising demand. meanwhile, the numbers of gps are falling — from 30,000 in england in 2015 down to 27,000 last year. doctor rob barnett has been treating patients here... hi, dr barnett, how are you doing? ..since the 1980s, but in recent years, recruiting gps has been tough. if i go back 10, 15 years, when we were looking to take on another gp, we had something like 50 applicants. in this last year, actually, we were struggling to get someone. how do you feel the system is working at the moment?

over in the u.s. we need an orderly system where you're deporting people that come here illegally and don't qualify for asylum immediately, instead of having this approach of come one, come all. that's what we've been seeing in eagle pass. a city of 27,000 people, and we don't have the resources to sustain this problem. >> i mean, the asylum system is completely off the rails. it's completely broken in this country. it will take years for the people who are crossing over today, some of whom will claim asylum, unless they can prove ultimately in a court that they were persecuted for some specific reason. if they're just economic migrants, that's not a legitimate claim of asylum. and yet they can be here for years, legally not able to work. it's such a broken system. there's not enough judges. it's ridiculous that it takes, you know, years and years, for even asylum claims to be heard. >> anderson, i agree. we need more immigration judges.

if we see actual actions come of these meetings. we had a lot of people visiting here in eagle pass, but we want to see action. >> what kind of action? >> as a mayor, what i have seen here, i see thousands of people coming in without consequence. so what i want to see is a system where you detain people, and athena qualify for asylum, you deport them right away. right now what is happening is that they detain people and they release them to an ngo here in eagle pass and then they're all over in the u.s.. we need an orderly system when you are deporting people who are coming here illegally and don't qualify for asylum immediately, instead of having this approach of come one come all. that's what we've been seeing here in eagle pass, and city of 27,000 people and we don't have the resources to sustain this problem. >> the asylum system is completely off the rails. it's completely broken in this country. it will take years for the people who are crossing over today, some of whom will claim asylum unless they can prove ultimately in a court that they were persecuted for some specific reason. if they're just economic
