An emergency program to stop the global new wave of COVID-19!

An emergency program to stop the global new wave of COVID-19!
Over the past two months, daily new COVID-19 cases around the world have surged by more than 60 percent, driven by more dangerous and deadly variants of the disease. Within weeks, public health experts warn, the number of global daily new cases, now at nearly 600,000, will reach the highest levels since the start of the pandemic.
In many countries this is already the case. On Saturday, India reached 100,000 daily new COVID-19 cases, the highest number ever and a nine-fold increase since the start of 2021.

Fears of 4th COVID-19 surge growing despite record vaccination numbers

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is not recommending travel at this time due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country, which is due in part to the presence of more highly transmissible variants. There is now a race to administer as many vaccines as quickly as possible in order to stop a fourth surge in coronavirus cases. On Saturday, the United States hit a record by administering 4 million COVID-19 vaccine doses in a single day.In addition, nearly one in four American adults are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus."We are vaccinating at a rate of 3 million people on average every day," said CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky.Still, some infectious disease experts are skeptical about those figures and whether that would even be enough to stop a fourth surge."I'm worried about that surge. That 3 million doses is very hopeful," said Dr. Ashish Jha, dean of the Brown University School of Public Health."We are not going to have enough vaccine, with the way we're going, into the arms of enough Americans over the course of the next six to 10 weeks, with this surge, that we're going to stop it. It's just simply not going to happen," said Dr. Michael Osterholm, director of the University of Minnesota's Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy. In Massachusetts, any state resident aged 55 and older is eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. In addition, any residents with one of the following medical conditions are eligible:CancerChronic kidney diseaseChronic lung diseases, including COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), asthma (moderate-to-severe), interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, and pulmonary hypertensionDementia or other neurological conditionsDiabetes (type 1 or type 2)Down syndromeHeart conditions (such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathies or hypertension)HIV infectionImmunocompromised state (weakened immune system)Liver diseaseOverweight and obesityPregnancySickle cell disease or thalassemiaSmoking, current or formerSolid organ or blood stem cell transplantStroke or cerebrovascular disease, which affects blood flow to the brainSubstance use disordersIn two weeks, all people aged 16 and older will become eligible to be vaccinated in Massachusetts. The Biden administration says there will be enough COVID-19 vaccine supply to vaccinate all American adults by the end of May.Massachusetts vaccination progressMassachusetts COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and fatalities
