5g Smartphones: According to Cybermedia Research (CMR), 5G shipments surged 30% on-year in the first half of 2023, even as overall smartphone shipments declined 13% during the period.
Smartphone brands launched 151 models overall since January, trailing the more than 181 models rolled out in the same period last year, which eventually touched 203 models by December-end, according to ET's research."Last year, brands were launching 5G devices just to be ahead of the curve. A shortage of 5G chipsets also kept brands from launching too many models, and if they did launch them at affordable prices, there would be compromises such as an LCD display instead of a high-quality OLED display," said Shilpi Jain, senior research analyst, Counterpoint.
