By WMAY Newsroom Shutterstock Springfield city officials have taken pre-emptive action against another large private party in an effort to avoid a replay of a deadly incident last month. After that large-scale unsanctioned event at 11 th and South Grand resulted in a mass shooting that left one person dead, the city went to court and obtained a restraining order against a party planned for Saturday night at a hotel on J. David Jones Parkway. Officials say they will continue to take action to prevent such events from occurring in violation of city zoning and business rules.

By WMAY Newsroom Chatham IL police department logo Illinois State Police have been called in to investigate an incident in which an armed suspect was shot by a Chatham police officer. Police were called to a home on East Walnut in Chatham Friday afternoon and found a man with a knife outside the residence attempting to harm himself. As an officer tried to talk to the man, police say the suspect lunged at the officer with the knife, so the officer shot him. The suspect was taken to the hospital in stable condition. No officers were hurt.
