Venezuelan President receives COVID vaccines

President of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro was given the Russian-made Sputnik V COVID vaccine yesterday.
The COVID injection of President Maduro and First Lady Celia Flores was broadcast by the country's state media.
The number of coronaviruses in Venezuela is around 42,000 and the death toll is 1,378.
However, these statistics were criticized by opposition politicians and medical professionals.
Venezuela has so far received 200,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, which the president has received from its second stockpile.
Venezuela has also received 500,000 doses of the Sinopharm COVID vaccine from China.

50 journalists killed worldwide in 2020

A total of 50 journalists were killed worldwide in 2020, according to the second part of the annual round-up of abusive treatment and violence against journalists, published by Reporters Without Borders (RSF).
While the number of journalists killed in countries at war continues to fall, more are being murdered in countries not at war
Many were killed for trying to expose crime and corruption.
The review shows that journalists are increasingly being targeted and killed because of their work. Some 84% of journalists killed this year were deliberately targeted, up from 63% in 2019.
This year's data covers January 1 to December 15.
Journalists publishing investigative stories were particularly vulnerable to attacks.

Argentina the first country in Latin America to officially register Russian Sputnik vaccine

The official Sputnik V Twitter account as well as foreign media has announced Wednesday that Argentina is the first country in Latin America to officially register the Covid-19 vaccine.
"Argentina was the first country in Latin America to officially register Sputnik V. The vaccine was registered under the emergency use authorization procedure and was approved by the regulator, ANMAT, based on the results of Phase III clinical trials in Russia, without additional trials in Argentina," the RDIF statement said.
"The registration confirms high confidence in Russian regulatory standards and Sputnik V," the Sputnik V tweet said.
Argentina Health Minister Gines González García tweeted Wednesday that an Aerolineas flight has arrived in Moscow and will bring back 300,000 of the first doses of Russia's Sputnik V vaccine.

Preliminary work to import Sputnik Vaccine to SL underway - Channa Jayasumana

State Minister of Pharmaceuticals, Supplies and Regulatory Affairs Channa Jayasumana stated that preliminary work has been initiated to import the Russian-made Sputnik vaccine into Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile the official Sputnik V Twitter account announced Wednesday that Argentina had officially registered the Covid-19 vaccine.
Argentina Health Minister Gines González García tweeted Wednesday that an Aerolineas flight has arrived in Moscow and will bring back 300,000 of the first doses of Russia's 'Sputnik V' vaccine.
