The need arose after the drowning of two boys in the summer in the Illinois River. Beardstown Fire Department Chief Brian Becker has been working with Bob Fitzsimmons, a coordinator with the Morgan County Dive Team, to get it started. To prepare, the team have been going to classes since November for open water diving and there are plans to become public safety divers after that. Open water training requires many hours for training and hands on training in the pool. ....
