Many Nigerians were understandably shocked, surprised, if not alarmed last week, when they suddenly heard the news that the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari had finally decided to relieve the service chiefs appointed in 2015 of their appointments. The popular response was couched in such phrases as “oh… at last. finally”, “better late than never” – general expressions of relief about a security team that many Nigerians concluded could not deliver on the President’s promise to make Nigeria a safer and better place for all or at best, tackle the menace of insurgency, terrorism and banditry. 'You Are Unpatriotic' — Lai Mohammed Attacks Those Calling For Probe Of Ex-Service Chiefs


 
Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, has berated Nigerians calling for the International Criminal Court (ICC) to probe the immediate-past service chiefs, describing them as unpatriotic.
Mohammed made this known while speaking on Tuesday during a 
Radio Nigeria programme,

This medium had reported that President Muhammadu Buhari, appointed four new service chiefs last week after much clamour from Nigerians that he bring in fresh hands to pilot the country’s anti-terrorism war.

PDP knocks Buhari, says appointment of new service chiefs late

Opposition Peoples Democratic Party has lampooned the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), saying he acted late in appointing new service chiefs, “after much damage has been done”.
The party also demanded the probe of the four immediate-past service chiefs to unravel the circumstances behind the security lapses during their tenure.
The ex-service chiefs are General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin (Chief of Defence Staff); Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (Chief of Army Staff); Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas (Chief of Naval Staff); and Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (Chief of Air Staff).

PDP demands immediate inquest into tenure of ex-service chiefs, knocks Buhari for 'acting late'


The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday demanded an immediate inquest into the tenure of the former service chiefs to unravel the circumstances behind the security lapses during their five-and- half-year in office.
The PDP in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, also knocked President Muhammadu Buhari over the late appointment of new service chiefs for the country.
The party insisted that he (Buhari) acted “after much damage has been done” to Nigeria by the criminals terrorizing innocent citizens across the country.
The service chiefs who left their positions on Tuesday are Gen. Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin (Chief of Defence Staff); Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (Chief of Army Staff); Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas (Chief of Naval Staff); and Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (Chief of Air Staff). ....
