Algeria and Sudan: Sidelining the Military during the Second Wave of the Arab Spring
Algeria and Sudan both broke out in democratic movements in 2019. In both countries, movements have stalled and militaries reasserted control. While the extraction of the military from politics is necessary, only mass pressure from the streets can sustain transition.
