Home alive. detroit firefighter michael joiner is one of the first responders at the scene. we got a call to a dwelling fire. it was on helen street. which is on the east side of detroit. it appeared someone fire bombed the structure. from the outside it looks like the fire is raging out of control. it s actually contained to the front of the house, but the two clearly terrified residents, a man and a woman, are so panicked they may not realize it. when they threw the fire bomb, it appeared it broke on the porch. and it appeared whatever type of accelerant they had, it ignited a lot of flame, and created a lot of smoke. the porch was on fire, but it never extended into the actual dwelling. onlookers scream for the residents to wait for the fire department, but they make a split second decision to jump. the man goes first. come on. ....

there was nothing quite like seeing a fire scene firsthand to give you a full appreciation of the devastation that has taken place, and also to give you a feel for how the fire might have developed. they needed to answer two critical questions what sparked the fire? and how could it appear so suddenly and erupt into a fatal blaze that claimed 31 lives? nearly a million people relied on the underground each day. they needed to know if the system was safe. it was on the front pages of every newspaper, obviously, for several days, and there was enormous demand to find out why it had happened. investigators started where the flames were first spotted, the escalator. this was the lowest point of the fire, indicating the fire had started there and burned upward. no accelerants or other indications of arson were found. ....

i can t really put my finger on anything. i just have a gut feeling that there s something about this one that, you know, there s more to it than just the typical missing person. just a few hours later, a motorist ten miles away spotted a fire in the parking lot of an abandoned building. when he got closer, he was horrified to see what looked like a human body. the upper portion of the body was engulfed in flames. an accelerant was believed to have been used, like gasoline. the victim, wrapped in a blue tarp and a blanket, was clearly a large, white male with brown hair. dental records confirmed it was david nixon. looked like at some point, someone may have tried to stuff the body down the drainage ditch. the body wouldn t fit. ....

Term that he would use. when police went to question him, he was gone. neighbors said he hadn t been around since olamide went missing. he did not have a vehicle. and the fact that olamide s vehicle was missing, that pointed even more directly towards wallace. nationwide alerts were issued for wallace and for olamide s car. when we say that yes, we had reason to believe that he s involved or has knowledge, that does not rule out that there could be other individuals. so, we re still looking at that, because we don t have all the pieces put together yet. wallace s credit card activity showed he purchased gasoline in mississippi the day after olamide disappeared. the gas station was near the barn where olamide s body was discovered. what we hoped to find out was did he purchase gas or an accelerant there that could be used to start the fire. unfortunately, there were no ....

A volunteer firefighter was first on the scene. he climbed down the embankment which is a steep embankment. he walked his way towards the fire. when he got there, at first he thought it was a mannequin or something of that sort. but as he got closer he realized it was a human being. after the fire was extinguished, the victim was unable to be unidentified other than to say he was a black male. there was no wallet, there was nothing on this person to immediately identify who this body was. the scent of accelerant was unmistakable. we had found a can that was next to the body that we came to understand was an accelerant that had been helped to light the fire. underneath the body was a partially melted sheet of ....
