Lafayette Kiwanis and LPSS Give Bicycles to Encourage Reading The Lafayette Parish School System has partnered with the Kiwanis Club of Lafayette on a mission to get children to read more books.  This initiative will give incentives to students in a new way. Pre-pandemic the children were encouraged through the Accelerated Reader program at school with librarians and teachers offering prizes and parties as an incentive. Freddie's story is a real 'cliffhanger' Creating a mini-saga in just 100 words can be quite a challenge. But pupils at Long Close Senior School in Upton Court Road, Slough know that good things come in small packages. The school has had 32 of its pupils' stories accepted for publication by the Young Writers publishing company in one of its regular anthologies of children's work. The publishing company holds regular competitions and this year's challenge was to write a thrilling mini-saga in just 100 words.
