Loads and generators causing harmonic distortion have traditionally been modelled as current sources. This model made it reasonable to apply distortion contribution limits in terms of harmonic current injected at point of connection. However, recent experiences have shown that inverter-based devices cannot be modelled as a current source without a shunt impedance.
