FIJI’S coastal fisheries and marine resources are a cornerstone of food security.
This was highlighted by the permanent secretary for Ministry of Forestry and Ministry of Fisheries, Pene Baleinabuli during the signing of the Adaptive Fisheries Management project with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) in Suva yesterday.
Mr Baleinabuli said it was coastal fisheries that delivered the vast majority of food security and nutrition and were an important contributor to livelihoods for Fijian people.
