ERVING Mosquito control services will likely be handled internally by the town this year, as the Selectboard has moved to opt out of a state program that has raised concerns in several other local towns.
The state’s program, through the Department of Agricultural Resources, includes an option for aerial spraying, in case certain diseases are found in local mosquito populations.
Individual towns have the ability to opt out of this program, if they can provide an alternative mosquito control plan that meets requirements set by the state. Greenfield, Montague and Wendell are among the communities that have chosen to opt out. ....

ERVING A new Selectboard has officially been established in place of the former Board of Selectmen. The change of terminology was endorsed by Erving Town Meeting voters in July, and was ultimately approved by Gov. Charlie Baker last week.
The change is only a difference in terminology, and does not change any of the Selectboard’s legal functions. Board members’ terms are still the same as they would have been otherwise.
The primary motive for the change was to reflect modern views on the use of gendered terminology, said Administrative Coordinator Bryan Smith. ....
