QUINCY Selecting board members will be the next step in the formation of the Quincy Valley Regional Parks District. Quincy City Council members approved an interlocal agreement for the city’s participation in the district’s governing board April 2. The agreement must be approved by all three governing entities that make up the district, which includes the cities of Quincy and George and Grant County. The proposed district was approved by voters in November 2023.

QUINCY Design work for the new Quincy-area fieldhouse and swimming pool is scheduled for 2024. Voters narrowly approved the formation of a new regional parks district in the November election, with 1,008 votes in favor and 945 against. Park district property owners will pay 50 cents per $1,000 of assessed value to fund the district. Quincy city Administrator Pat Haley said the work necessary to form the district will take some time.

Quincy Animal Shelter supervision leads to staffing discussion

QUINCY Quincy animal shelter administration will be shifted from the Quincy Police Department to the city’s public works department, a proposal that prompted a discussion about staffing by the Quincy City Council Sept. 5. “With the move over to public works, the (animal shelter) manager’s supervision is done by the maintenance supervisor, which also makes sense because he can then better address some of the facility issues that come up from time to time, (such as) equipment, building repair (and) utilities,” City Administrator Pat Haley said in answer to an email from the Columbia Basin Herald.
