GUWAHATI: The Assam forest department has registered a case against Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) in connection with the death of a wild elephant after it was hit by a railway engine near the city early on Friday morning.
Chief Conservator of Forest of Central Assam Circle, Hemkanta Talukdar, said the forest department is also probing if there were any lapses on the part of the forest personnel that might have led to the tragic incident.
“We know that the elephant died after it was hit by a railway engine. We also have information that the engine was of the Agartala-bound Rajdhani train. But the Railways have not yet given us any confirmation. We have taken up a case against the NF Railways,” Talukdar said.
