A new study reveals the regions of the U.S. with the highest prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD): Miami-Dade County in Florida, Baltimore City in Maryland, and Bronx County in New York. The researchers noted two specific characteristics that may explain the higher prevalence in these counties: an older average age of populations and higher percentages of Black and Hispanic residents.
Three California counties were in the top 10 for number of cases, and one was No. 9 for percent prevalence.
For the first time, researchers have been able to estimate the level of Alzheimer's disease in every county across the United States. The research was released this week at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference.
In Greene County, it's estimated that 10.1 to 11% of people over the age of 65 have Alzheimer's.
