Bahrain’s main opposition group, the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, says a Bahraini political dissident has passed away in a detention center after prison services denied him medical aid, amid reports of alarming conditions of confinement in the kingdom in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
Wefaq said in a statement on Tuesday that Abbas Malallah died at the notorious Jau Prison — where political leaders, human rights defenders, and other prisoners of conscience are kept — “as a result of dangerous, inhumane conditions and medical negligence.”
His body was later laid to rest in his home village of Nuwaidrat, located about 10 kilometers south of the capital, Manama. He is survived by his wife and three children.

A Bahraini political prisoner has died at a detention centre, which the authorities have claimed was due to "natural causes."
However, the kingdom's main opposition group Al-Wefaq, which was dissolved in 2016, has claimed that he died "as a result of dangerous, inhumane conditions [and] medical negligence."
The Interior Ministry meanwhile alleged that he "suffered from chronic diseases" leading to a heart attack.
A statement was issued by Al-Wefaq yesterday following reports that Abbas Malallah passed away at the notorious Jau Prison.
His funeral procession brought out protestors around the country as he was laid to rest in his home village of Nuwaidrat, approximately 10 kilometres south of the capital Manama.

Work in full swing on 3,000-unit Bahrain residential project

Bahraini officials said work is moving at a steady pace on the East Sitra Town project, which once completed, will be home to 3,000 residential units.

To be implemented in three phases, the project will boast key facilities and services that serve about 20,640 citizens, reported
BNA.

These include schools, kindergartens and nurseries, public parks, children’s playgrounds, houses of worship, health, social and cultural facilities, a youth club, commercial centres, petrol stations, water treatment station and a centre for visitors’ services in addition to a 2.6-km seafront promenade and 13-km-long bicycle lanes.

The accelerated pace of work at housing projects reflects the government’s seriousness in meeting the citizens’ housing demands according to schedule, remarked Housing Minister Bassim bin Yacoob Al Hamar.

People need to follow public precautionary measures and health guidelines to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
This was emphasised again by members of the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (COVID-19) during a press conference held yesterday at the Crown Prince Centre for Training and Medical Research, Bahrain Defence Force Hospital.
They stressed that the best way to prevent the spread of the virus is by following all health and precautionary measures such as wearing face masks, observing social distancing, limiting family gatherings, avoiding large crowds, and getting vaccinated.
After all, this commitment to the precautionary measures is everybody’s responsibility to keep everyone and the community safe.
