National snooker circuit to start from 31st - Newspaper

KARACHI: Pakistan’s national snooker circuit is due to commence after a long layoff with back-to-back SGL U-17 and U-21 championships being staged in Lahore from July 31 to Aug 10. The details of the junior events were announced by the officials of the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Federation (PBSF) during a press conference held at the Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Tuesday. As many as 18 cueists from across the country will vie feature in the U-17 event that carries total prize money of Rs130,000. The winner will get Rs50,000 while the runner-up will pocket Rs25,000. The participants have been divided into four groups and top two from each will qualify for the quarter-finals.

Alamgir appointed PBSA Chairman April 14, 2021 KARACHI: Alamgir Anwar Shaikh, having served the Pakistan Billiards & Association (PBSA) for eight years, has now been appointed Chairman of the controlling body of cue sports in the country. He has replaced Ali Asghar Valika, who has now been made Patron-in-Chief of the PBSA. A notification issued by the PBSA here the other day confirmed the appointment of Alamgir Shaikh as the new Chairman of the body. He was previously serving the Association as Co-Chairman since 2016. He had also succeeded as the PBSA President in 2008, twice elected to the coveted post for a term of four years. He sat out of the elections in 2016 in which his nominee Munawwar Hussain Shaikh edged out Sarwar Siddiqui in a fiercely fought presidential election for the first time in the history of the Association.

Karim KARACHI: The new set of office-bearers of the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Federation who returned unopposed formally took over for the next term of four years (2020-2024) on Tuesday. Election Commissioner Ayub Bawany announced the names of 12 members of the committee at the annual general body meeting held at a local hotel. Strangely, only 20 members out of 258 were in attendance that left much to be desired. At the outset, the outgoing president Munawwar Hussain Shaikh expressed gratitude to all members who have worked with him, sponsors and media for their wholehearted support. He also welcomed the new president Jawed H. Karim and his committee and hoped they will carry forward the legacy and high standards set by honorary life chairman Ali Asghar Valika.
