Bonomade Machude Omar had been directing insurgency operations since the outbreak of terrorism in Mozambique in October 2017.
The Mozambican army announced on Wednesday that it had successfully neutralized two senior leaders of the insurgent group.
"Terrorist Abu Kital, who held the position of deputy operations commander for the Al Sunna Wall Jamat terrorist group, was shot dead," the Mozambique Defense Forces (FADM) announced in a statement.
