A dozen parents and grandparents criticized diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts at Carmel Clay Schools to the school board on Monday night. Calling the efforts political and promoting a “woke set of ideology," they criticized saying DEI emphasized differences which led to intolerance and bulling for those who disagree. The HSE Board of School Trustees approved her hiring in a 5-2 vote at a special meeting on Thursday, ending a process that started late last year when current superintendent Allen Bourff announced his retirement. Board members Brad Boyer and Suzanne Thomas were the 'no' votes.  She’s currently assistant superintendent for the School Town of Munster and starts as the leader of HSE on July 1. Hamilton Southeastern Schools will have a virtual racial justice town hall later this month. The district announced the event, scheduled for 7 to 8:15 p.m. March 23, on Thursday. It will be via Zoom and include breakout room discussions. Attendance is limited to 300 people, per capacity limits on Zoom, HSE spokesperson Emily Pace Abbotts said.
