Armed with a map, compass and essentials, three East London teams Designer Gold, Pinegold and Heineken, consisting of four members each, are among 106 teams from 30 nations taking on the epic race in the Kouga region.
Thousands of households in water-stressed areas of the Eastern Cape are set to benefit from a water provisioning initiative by the Amatola Water Board. The programme will benefit 120,000 households a day who live in rural parts of the province. In a bid to ensure water security in rural areas, the state-owned water utility is appointing service providers to supply, deliver and install 600 rainwater tanks to the Eastern Cape’s six kingdom palaces.
Water and sanitation minister Senzo Mchunu is forging ahead with plans to remove water provision status from all Eastern Cape district and local municipalities, and confer the responsibility solely on the troubled Amatola Water Board (AWB). In the government gazette this week, Mchunu said he intended to extend the area Amatola Water serviced to cover the entire Eastern Cape.
