The latest layoffs come about a year after AWS held its largest-ever round of job eliminations, part of a cost-cutting drive that saw Amazon slash 27,000 corporate roles following a pandemic-era hiring boom.
Amazon Web Services has laid off a few hundred employees in its unit that works on technology for physical retail stores, and several hundred more in its sales, marketing and global services division, news site The Information reported on Wednesday.
US and EU authorities have investigated the claims from the class action suit. Amazon has crossed authorities for its practices many times now over the years, between how it treats its workers to sellers, there are no shortages of reports detailing its unfair protocols.
The San Jose, California-based company has a total employee count of 84,900 as of fiscal 2023, according to its website. The company is still deciding on the total number of employees to be affected by the layoffs, one person said.
Amazon is cutting off hundreds more from its healthcare units amid internal disputes with its subsidiaries.
