CARTERET – Pre-pandemic, Enlly Gramajo was a server in a restaurant tending to diners needs. Now, she tends to the needs of a sophisticated system as an Amazon Robotics Tech at the Carteret fulfillment center, referred to as EWR9.
Celebrating this week s National Robotics Week, Gramajo is just one example of how humans and robots work together at Amazon to get packages to customers every day.
Last March, the 31-year-old mother of two began working at EWR9 in the Pick Department after losing her job as a server when the restaurant industry shut down. She would pick items for customer orders out of storage shelves that robotic drive units move around. In September, her manager recommended her for robotics training working with the robotic drive units. It was not a role she had ever envisioned herself in working with robots but one she could not pass up. ....
