Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM has tied up with TTV Dhinakaran's Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly polls next month. In November, the AIMIM party won five of the 14 seats it had contested in Bihar and Owaisi was tagged as ‘vote-cutter’ by the opposition front that said the secular votes had been split because of the AIMIM and this had benefited the BJP-led coalition.
As part of its seat share with the AMMK for the April 6 election, the AIMIM will contest three of Tamil Nadu's 234 seats -- Vaniyambadi, Krishnagiri and Sankarapuram. In 2016, the AIMIM had fielded its state unit chief, Vakeel Ahmed, from Vaniyambadi and the AIADMK candidate won. This time, AIMIM's Tamil Nadu unit had given Owaisi a list of 20 seats where it said it could win. The ruling AIADMK has allied with the BJP and PMK, while the opposition DMK has tied up with the Congress, Left and other parties.

TTV Dhinakaran, the chief of the AMMK, denied today that his tie-up with Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM would help Tamil Nadu's ruling AIADMK and its ally BJP by splitting the opposition votes in the state election next month. In an interview to NDTV, Mr Dhinakaran stressed that he had not defied his aunt VK Sasikala, who had called for a united fight against a common enemy.

The BJP is an alliance partner of the AIADMK, the party of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. After seat-sharing talks, BJP was awarded 20 seats to contest in the state’s Assembly.
Meanwhile, the AIADMK has been wary of AMMK, which was founded in 2017 by Dhinakaran, a former MP of the party. Dhinakaran along with his aunt VK Sasikala, a former close aide of Jayalalithaa, had founded the party as an affront to AIADMK, after Sasikala's removal from the post of AIADMK general secretary. Her ouster was orchestrated by senior AIADMK leaders including Edappadi K Palaniswamy and O Panneerselvam. Palaniswamy is the present Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

After its Bihar election splash, Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM has tied up with TTV Dhinakaran's Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) for the Tamil Nadu polls next month.
Mr Owaisi's party had in November won five of the 14 seats it had contested in Bihar, and he was tagged as "vote-cutter" and "BJP's B-team" by the opposition front that said the secular votes had been split because of the AIMIM and this had benefited the BJP-led coalition.

“We are contesting the election in the hope that we will win. We are contesting in the hope that votes will not be scattered, and people of Tamil Nadu will vote for us," he said. He said AMMK was in talks with other parties for an alliance and there will be clarity in two days.

Chennai: VK Sasikala, the former state general secretary of AIADMK and once closest aide of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who had earlier decided to stay away from politics, in a dramatic statement said she may stage a comeback if the ruling party in the state bites the dust.
Sasikala of the infamous "Mannargudi family" was released from January 27, after serving jail term for four years.
