julie. this week is important to watch in terms of the direction and the pace of how house democrats are going to go forward on their investigations of president trump. and it now looks like they ll not hear in person from annie donaldson the top white house counsel aide who they are looking to talk to to sort of amplify the understanding of what don mcgahn and the president said and did with regard to potential obstruction but they have to decide whether they go to court to try to compel don mcgahn to appear, whether they go forward with the subpoena of or with the court action against the attorney general, mr. barr, and also how they re going to comport themselves with regard to mueller because they still don t have the response to their subpoena of mr. mueller, meanwhile the impeachment calls just continue to mount on the democratic side. now you have a third of house democrats calling for president trump s impeachment and so how those investigations proceed is going to potent ....

Post and moderator of washington week on pbs. two men who know the president well. brian, i must start with you because you have this week s cover story for time magazine and it is all about the president s re-election strategy. bottom line, he plans to focus on his base and has no intention on trying to win over any new voters. well, he is going to try to amplify his base and amplify exactly the plan and strategy he followed in 2016 and try to find even more people who will sign on to his unique brand of politics and have that sense of outrage and victimhood that the president talks about so much. so his plan is to double down on his strategy from 2016 and amplify it and he has a really incredible, very massive campaign strategy for doing digital ad buys and amplifying and exaggerating exactly the things that he did that captured the news cycle so effectively in 2016. bob, is the trump voter bigger than we realized? ....

they don t ask her, though, because they know she doesn t have an answer. they re avoiding trying to embarrass her because everybody is in her court, quite frankly. there s nothing there. the democrats are going to try to magnify and amplify what it smells kind of funny for all of the americans getting upset and saying some things to don mcgann that never happened. the conspiracy is let s get lisa back in. the attorney general as in rod rosestein, the one wanting to invoke the 25th amendment both came in conclusion with the conjunction of the office of legal counsel there was no case of obstruction of justice. there wasn t enough information there to move forward with it. so this is a fruitless exercise. it s a political exercise. ....

Significant witness in this investigation, rick gates, former deputy campaign chairman for trump and now someone who s pled guilty to crimes. tell us what questions he needs to address. he s going to answer questions, but what questions he needs to address in this statement? i think if it is a farewell statement, it kind of gives him a clear shot at saying what he wants to say. i think what would be really important is for him to address the whole question of, there was not enough evidence to bring criminal charges about conspiracy or conclusion with russia. and the problem is, i just can t see mueller making some type of grand unveiling that in fact there was a lot here, it s an impeachable offense. i can t see him saying that in these circumstances. so he may just kind of amplify a little bit some summary of his findings. and i think that could be very disappointing. but that would be a really crucial piece of insight for him ....

Thing to politicize the use of intelligence sources, human sources, assets, confidential sources of the united states that operate in very dangerous situations overseas risking their lives and the lives of their families to give us information and then that information and their identity could be revealed for a purely political effort by bill barr to amplify donald trump s political, wacky political theories. it s insanity. i don t think intelligence professionals will stand for it. let me press you a little bit on something you alluded to. you thought attorney general barr was getting a little resistance in his efforts to get his hands on some of this intel. i picked up today it wasn t just the intelligence community but also perhaps at the fbi. there is a real gap opened up between the fbi director chris wray who testified he did not believe the investigation was a witch hunt. you have the current attorney general saying that spying occurred. obviously that is the president s posit ....
