New Delhi [India], May 17 (ANI): The first batch of the 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) drug developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for treatment of Covid-19 will be released by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday.
Rajnath Singh's office tweeted,"Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh will release the first batch of anti-Covid drug 2DG via video conferencing facility tomorrow at 10.30 AM. The drug has been developed by DRDO's Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS) in collaboration with Dr Reddy's Laboratories."

The first batch of 2DG medicine for treating COVID-19 patients would be launched early next week, Defense Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) said on May 14. Speaking to ANI, DRDO officials said that as many as 10,000 doses of the drug would be administrated across India. Jointly developed by DRDO and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL), the drug has been found to expedite recovery in coronavirus patients and also reduce their dependency on oxygen. On May 1, the 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2DG) medicine was granted approval for emergency use in India.

Though India is currently experiencing a oxygen and vaccine shortage, there is some good news on the horizon. The Defense Research and Development Organization has announced that the first batch of 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) medicine for the treatment of mild to serious Covid-19 cases will be available next week. “The first batch of 10,000 doses of 2DG medicine for the treatment of COVID-19 infected patients will be launched early next week and given to patients,” the official said.
“The pharma companies are working to increase the production of the medication for potential use. A team of DRDO scientists, led by Dr. Anant Narayan Bhatt, created the drug “officials have said.  2-DG (2-deoxy-D-glucose), an anti-COVID-19 therapeutic application of the drug, was created in cooperation with Dr Reddys Laboratories (DRL) in Hyderabad by the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), a lab of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
